| 1. Make sure you've used a reputable installer to put in your hardwood floors. |
| |
2. Remove any solid material from the floor like dirt and hair. Leaving dirt and small particles of grit on the floor can result in scratches and gouges on the wood. Take care of the floor by sweeping it with a broom or a static cloth cleaner.
Vacuum the areas that get a lot of traffic. Even if you can't see the dirt in these areas, there may still be enough small particles present to scratch the flooring. |
3. Use a water-based cleaning agent once a week. It is better to
use water based cleaning agents that are PH neutral. Keep
large amount of water away from hard wood flooring. Water
can
warp the boards and cause cracks and other damages.
Small amounts of water can be used to clean dirty areas, but
any
water used should be dried quickly afterwards. |
| 4. Wax solid wood flooring every few months to keep your flooring shiny. Avoid direct sunlight on your hardwood floors as sunlight may change the colour of some hardwood floor finishes. Use window curtains or blinds to prevent the sun from bleaching a portion of your flooring. |
| 5. Try to keep high heels and dirts off the wood floors to prevent scratching. Never drag heavy furniture across wood floors. Put protectors under furniture legs to prevent scratches and dents when moving furniture. They also help making it easier to move furniture around when sweeping or vacuuming |
